Industry Work Placements

Through entering the 2011 Developing Tourism Leaders Awards, you will gain the opportunity to win a paid work placement. Last year the following leading Tourism, Hospitality and Events organisations offered placements as part of the Developing Tourism Leaders Awards:

Tourism Victoria: Working in the online department at Tourism Victoria, the work placement took place over four weeks starting in February 2011.

Accor Hotels: As a DTL award winner, applicants applying for the Accor Hotels Graduate Management Traineeship Program bypassed the formal application process and straight into the interview. The program took place over 12 months and provided on-the-job training and career development for graduates looking to fast-track their careers in hospitality. The GMT will complemented tertiary qualifications and aimed to develop the successful applicant as a Senior Supervisor or Junior Manager.

Hamilton Island - Great Barrier Reef Australia: Kick start your career in the heart of the beautiful Great Barrier Reef! As a DTL Award winner, you will have the opportunity to apply for hospitality positions on offer in the Food & Beverage and Housekeeping Departments of Hamilton Island. Fast tracking straight to the interview stage of the recruitment process DTL Award winners are in prime position to launch their careers with an international resort industry leader. Successful applicants will start in mid-December. What a fantastic start to your hospitality career at one of Australia's most awarded holiday destinations!

Crown Melbourne: Being a DTL Award winner, applicants had an advantage when applying to the Graduate Management Program. The program ran for 12 months and was designed to give employees an understanding how the Crown business works. Successful applicants had training in different areas including restaurant, bar and banquet training and at the end of the program, graduates will have the opportunity to enter the Training F&B Supervisory program.

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre: As part of the traineeship program at the Melbourne Exhibition & Convention Centre, award winning students were able to apply for work placement in the Food & Beverage department. The placement will took place over six months starting in February 2011.

City of Melbourne: Launch your tourism career with the City of Melbourne! Tourism Melbourne is offering employment opportunities for graduating/recently graduated students who have ambition to work in the tourism industry. The role will commence in December 2011 and be for a period of 3 months, with the outlook of ongoing employment. Successful applicants will gain experience with Tourism Melbourne's dynamic visitor services including Town Hall and the Melbourne Visitor Centre (MVC). The role will provide the opportunity to engage with the city and visitors, fulfilling an essential tourism role in Melbourne during what is an exciting, festive and busy time of the year.

Global Ballooning: Lucky award winners will have the opportunity to apply for two positions in the bookings AND ground operations department at Global Ballooning. What a fantastic start for a career in the tourism industry!

Peter Rowland Catering: Join one of Australia's most successful catering companies! Peter Rowland Catering specialises in catering for key venues such as National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Museum and Flemington Racecourse, as well as private and corporate events, weddings, and major events such as the MotoGP, the AAMI Classic and the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Successful applicants will be fast-tracked to the interview process, which is normally only open to internal Peter Rowland Catering staff. What a fantastic way to start in the event catering industry!

Work Placement Workshop

The Industry Work Placement Workshops are a chance for the award-winning students to meet a representative from each of the organisations offering industry work placements and be given an overview of the organisation, the work placement being offered and some tips in applying.

This Workshop is invitation-only and will depend on the final results of the 2011 DTL Awards.
